Frequent flyer points to LA for two of us, paid all the way for one of us. Paid for 2 bags in Toronto, then got charged again in LA.
Same record locator all the way through for each person, though two record locators between the three of us.
Got charged for baggage in LA as well as Toronto. Fine of course in Toronto, but not fine in LA. Asked agents in Toronto they said to show receipt in LA and it would be fine.
Even got a supervisor in LA, still didn't help.
Since baggage handling broke a strap on one of our bags, and AA won't cover that (according to the desk in LA, too tired to argue there), I'm going to complain anyway, but has anyone run into a similar issue before? Wondered how hard I should try in getting those fees refunded or some miles of the equivalent value or whatever. Seems unreasonable to have to pay again at LAX when the stopover was less than 24 hours.
Better yet the bag fees should go away entirely (or one free is fine), but that's another matter.
Thx.
If it counted as a "stopover" rather than a "connection", then this would be treated as a separate leg of the trip and you would have to pay the fee.
