Ah, not always true. There has to be some incentive for participation in a FF program beyond the prospect of a free Wed afternoon flight from Salt Lake City to Phoenix with two stops.

That's really not my problem. Delta (and many other airlines, to be fair) started printing FF currency like mad and selling it to credit card companies and others so that it can be earned cheaply and without actually flying. Now, Delta is complaining that it can't cover all the proverbial checks it wrote? Sorry, no sympathy from me.
