When I landed at Terminal M in ORD and was going through the passport line, the Immigration officer asked me the purpose of my 1 day visit, and I admitted "MR". She professed to be incredulous and not comprehend. I then had to spend the next 5 minutes explaining to her why I would do that (and I guess getting her comfortable that I was not running contraband).
Was that a stupid move on my part? What do other MRers do in that situation?

Not exactly the same thing, but
I was flying from CAE to DFW en route to FRA and the plane was pretty empty, the FA was bored and stuck up a conversation. It dawned on her that DFW was a bit out of the way. I explained that I try to keep all possible travel with AA for the status.
I don't think she got it....
But then again neither does Mrs Gamecock.
