If you went to "transit" and then went to the departure area, then it is not easy to get back down to the arrivals level to go through immigration.

But if you've already decided to go into Hong Kong, then don't go to transit. Just go straight through arrivals/immigration like most others.

I think that's what you mean.

Then get a same-day roundtrip ticket for the Airport Express train. It can't be easier getting out of the airport.
