12-hour layover at JFK - check bags all the way through?
I have an upcoming trip from Los Angeles to Milan next month, and rather than leaving LAX in the morning to connect right to Malpensa, I booked a redeye with an all-day layover at JFK so that I could go into Manhattan for lunch with friends.
It's a really short trip, so I might not even have an checked in bags, but I've never done such a long layover before and am somewhat paranoid that if I check in my bag to MXP when I get to LAX, it's going to get lost sitting at JFK all day. And since I'll only be in Milan for three days before heading back to LA, having my bag lost/delayed would be a disaster.
So, should I really be worried and re-check my bags at JFK later in the afternoon?
