If you have someone next to you who you don't know, it's not the best thing in the world. There are better Club seats.
But it is still miles better than being in a Y (or even W) seat next to someone you don't know. I would happily take an op-up from my (then) favourite W seat to a middle J seat next to a stranger any day - and much appreciated it when it happened.
It is not torture. It isn't even unpleasant. It's just a little disconcerting and perhaps a little discomfiting.
