Why do you think BA would overlook your silver status and change the rules just for you ?

If you are travelling a lot the resetting to 0 is not a problem, you get to enjoy silver but will progress to gold. If you are not you won't - and if you want to get more tier points there are lots of e-mails telling you how to travel on flight that will get you cheap (ish) tier points.
