So a better comparions is mileage ticket versus paid non-upgradeable fare. And add the unearned miles to the mileage ticket to make the comparsion fairer.

These are personal decisions and there is not one right answer.
How well do you handle that long flight in E+?
Many on this forum would say they only want a C seat (at minimum).
Others are miles rich and the cash matters.
