I had a good experience with "last minute" beverage service once...
I was on a TATL in C coming out of the lav just prior to landing (the lav between F and C, next to the C galley). The seatbelt sign was already on. I could see that the crew was preparing the galley for landing, putting everything away.
Well, I was craving a cup of coffee, which I usually get shortly before landing but hadn't for some reason. I thought I'd give it a shot before returning to my seat. There were several FA's there, one crouching down low stowing some gear. So I asked an FA standing closest if there was any way I could get a cup of coffee before landing. Before she could even give an answer, the crouching FA yells out "I already dumped it" without even turning around. So the FA I asked turns back and gives me a look that says "Oh, well, sorry!"
Honestly, I wasn't upset because I knew I was pushing it and figured it couldn't hurt to ask. But just then another FA that was standing there (I think she was from F) jumped in to the rescue! She says to me as she turns to look up the aisle to the F galley "how do you take it?" I just blurted out "cream and two equal" and she was already starting to run up the aisle! As she's running up, she turns back and says "return to your seat, I'll bring it to you!" And she was off!
Well, we were almost starting descent when she came over to my seat with my coffee, just as I like it. She even apologized for the styrofoam cup! I thought that was pretty awesome... she certainly didn't have to serve me at the last minute like that. I think I gave her a GTEM.
