If you use the security entrance by the AA counter, I think the stairs through the restaurant are indeed unavoidable. However, if you keep walking past the first security entrance, there's another one about 1-2 minutes further down, and it dumps you into the terminal pretty much near the glass walkway to the satellite. I immediately just go to this security entrance if I see any sort of line at the first one, and have yet to wait here.

3 for 3 on satellite usage in the last 18 months. Until this thread, I'm not sure I would have known it's rarely used.
