Ryanair - Which bit of "one piece of hand luggage" don't you understand?

From now on if you try to get more than one piece of hand luggage onto a Ryanair flight, it will be gate checked and you'll be charged £30 for it

I would assume - this being Ryanair after all - that this will apply to purchases made AFTER security
