Yes I'm seriously concerned about an upcoming holiday in Florida in a couple of months.

Like you I booked the flights when the rate was £1 = $2 or a little under. I was holding a hotel room booked at the same rate, as well as a private apartment booked when it was £1 = $1.68-70 (room rate was $180 + tax per night).

I've now changed the hotel room to a different location which is cheaper and a deposit has been paid, however a further $700 is due mid February. Though I did make about £50 on the refund of the deposits I was holding.

The private apartment booked turned out to be a scam and my credit card refunded me. However, I'll now need to pay another property which will be cheaper at $143 + tax but of course at a far less favourable exchange rate.

I'm travelling alone so I don't have family members to pay for and I'm praying the rate will improve again before I go. But it's so frustrating. Two weeks ago it crept up to £1 = $1.56 then came back down again. Every time the £ gains a few cents, they lose again over the next few days.

I'm desperately looking forward to the Spring trip and will probably still go and just spend next to nothing whilst out there. At this point I can't even think about the trip in late October - just pray the economy will improve a little by then.

The banks may have a lot of responsibility for the economy, but I think our Government are far worse and the sooner they go the better. Perhaps I'd be better on benefits then I wouldn't notice the credit crunch at all.
