Thanks - I had found that thread earlier when I was doing my searches and did take a look at some of the things mentioned.

I hadn't thought about Perugia. My rail map seems to indicate it's fairly well connected by rail - I'll go check out trenitalia to be sure.

I'm starting to realize that. I can do Bologna for about 100 Euros a night at an SPG property. On the other hand, I'm finding some Florence properties on Venere for about 150-200 Euros/night. Much better than the >400 Euros/night at the SPG properties in Florence.
