Were you on a regional aircraft, like a CRJ 900? I have a hard time understanding how a seat in F on a 737 or some other similar plane is restrictive, compared to coach.
It is fairly easy to get an F upgrade on US right now even as a Silver, with the perceived (no real proof other than perception) defections of a lot of their elites. If there are seats in F, and the GA is so inclined, they often sell the seats for $50. They might not be worth it though, on a shorter flight.
