Is there a way to book an AA flight online by selecting different fare codes for each leg?

I'm 40 status credits short toward status on Qantas which must be earned by March 1st. I have an upcoming r/t from SNA > via DFW > IAD and would like to see if there's some reasonable way I could get these credits by flying AA.

SNA > DFW 1205 mi
DFW > IAD 1170 mi

For certain AA fare codes (GLMNSV) QF issues 20 credits for legs > 1200 mi , others receive nada (OQZ, etc).

What I'd like to do is book the legs between SNA & DFW (S) and the legs between DFW & IAD (O) but can't figure out how to do it on the AA website. It only allows me to select one fare code for the outbound and one for the return. Guess it could be done with 2 PNRs but would like to avoid that in case one flight gets delayed.

Any online options or am I doomed to use a travel agent? TIA!
Unfortunately AA.COM com will not let u book different segments in different fare buckets. It picks them for you.
Pick the flights u want and do a hold.
Call up AA and have them change the fare buckets to what u want (if they are available) and have them do a save and calculate the new fare.
Two different fare segments might be cause a much higher fare then a thru fare in the same fare bucket.
Go back to AA.COM and check it and then ticket on line.
