In searching through the Internet, it does not appear that "mayday mayday mayday" was declared by the crew of Cactus 1549.
It appears that the NTSB spokeswoman was paraphrasing the conversation between the crew at ATC as the "mayday" call.

It would be cool if someone could post the actual recording of the conversation between ATC and Cactus 1549.
