My ticket is likely going to be (not booked yet) YUL-FRA-KIX, open jaw NRT-YYZ-YUL, and local o/w flights around Europe on LCCs, but the IST-FRA flight would likely have to be LH because friends are telling me that I pretty much have to use IST, and not SOW (the 'regional' airport), to fly out of Istanbul due to the inconvenient location of SOW (and all LCCs operate from there).

Got you. Thanks for the breakdown. I think I can probably avoid nesting, or at least find a different airline - but good to know to what lengths they would go
