TWA was really bad about this. A flight, say JFK-LHR might have 5 flight numbers, 802, 832, 852, 872, 876

832 could have been DTW-JFK-LHR
852 ATL-JFK-LHR
872 SFO-JFK-LHR
876 MIA-JFK-LHR
