Unfortunately this doesn't happen all the time. I had the exact same situation at the Barclay NY and they were adamant about the rules; charged me for the night I missed and would not make any accommodation (points were not refunded until I asked). Since it was my fault, I didn't have much ground to protest, but I'm not staying there again. There are too many other options in NY (non IC) that want the business.
