How do you know if a drive can be USB powered ?
Hi

I would like to get a DVD player / recorder for my Dell mini 9 netwook (which I have not bought yet)

Anyway Newegg has a $20 DVD recorder http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-L0-_-27106263

can I just put it in the correct USB box WITHOUT an external power source, and use it ?

I guess the same question for USB external hard-drives.

I am just not sure what makes a drive able to be used thru the USB port
