Maybe not, but if he has under 2 MM lifetime -- or under 1 MM -- it would be worth crossing the threshold before switching to another airline. It's very handy to be lifetime anything when you're retired, or if a career or life change cuts your travel back, and it's harder to reach the lifetime milestones on any other airline that even has them.
