I'm surprised by all the rancour here against Starwood. When we wanted to take our 11-y.o. with us to England and Ireland, we emailed the hotels in advance to ask if she could stay in our room for free. Yes, at the Sheraton Heathrow (they have 2 queen beds per room, I think) but no at the Westin Dublin (I think it was a Westin and not a Sheraton). We had to use additional points and upgrade in Dublin to a higher category of room to accomodate the rollaway which was either free or farily cheap. To be fair to them, Westin was very nice and upgraded us to a very nice room, indeed.
This year, in Germany, we're faced with a similar situation only our child is 13. We're booking two C&P rooms to accomodate all of us. A pain, yes, but cheaper than adding a rollaway, which in was 100eur at all of the hotels we were looking at!
At any rate, Europe just does things differently. To assume that children are free, as they are here in the states, seems a very insular attitude to me.
