If you search your memories just a little, tiny bit, I'm sure every one of you will be able to think of at least one instance in which you were casually and cheerfully disrespectful toward a customer without giving it a second thought. (Never rolled your eyes behind someone's back while being exquisitely polite to their face? Never sold someone an expensive piece of clothing or jewelry while privately thinking it was hideously tacky?) Sure you have! C'mon, be honest for a moment.
I know better. And so do you.
OK, now to clear up the "troll" issue. Believe it or not, my underlying thought when writing this piece was that this was the one time I can recall in which I saw TSOs pulling together and working as a team and putting the mission ahead of self despite adversity. With camaraderie, even! It came as a pleasant surprise -- I wouldn't have thought we had it in us.
Thus the irony that people seized on the particular detail that they did, and ran with it. Just goes to show ya!
Well, rest assured I won't give you any similar opportunities in the future.
No, you don't know better. You don't even have a grasp on the gravity of the situation. Flatly put, you still don't get it.
It's one thing to
think something about someone or about something else (such as a sex toy). Those are your own private thoughts. I have them, you have them, and so does everyone else reading this.
You and your co-worker decided to play with someone's rightful, personal, PRIVATE
property. You chose to play with it under the guise of protecting people. That is what is so abhorrent in your behavior. What's worse is that you don't see anything wrong with it.
Since you failed to answer my question about playing with your badge, let me ask you this. Would you do the same thing with the toiletry kit/sex toy at the checkpoint? And please tell us why you would or wouldn't.
