I had the same problem yesterday from IAD-DEN on a 763. I noticed all of the readling lights were on in the cabin, so I mentioned it to the FA who politely acknowledged it and asked the purser who fixed it after a few minutes.

I would have asked the purser or kept pushing the issue if it was bothering your 6 year old.
