Perhaps as part of changes in staff ... with many new properties opened at the top end in Tokyo over the past 18months there has been a "churn" in the best staff ... my two most recent stays (Nov and again at xmas) were marred by several service gaffes. Have had many many stays that were "perfect" over the past years while GM Barker was there. Hmmm new GM (french from the Paris PH), glitches, changes in personnel. They need to get on top of these fast.
I have switched now to the Peninsula (ironically under the incredible stewardship of Malcolm Thompson who was the PHT's first GM) and not just because I am a Hong Konger. The in room technology is light years ahead of the PHT -- which sorely needs a major investment in this area; and the incredibly personalised service after just a few introductory stays have convinced me to take my business over to Hibiya/Ginza and the Peninsula.

Sorry PHT, it was a wonderful run for a few years, but the times are a changin and you haven't kept up.
