MCO is an OK example but the CRC is in a different security and I'd never subject myself to clearing at MCO twice just for a free drink. But my parents fly through ATL very frequently and are often on the D concourse where there is a PC and not a CRC. They got the AmEx and then realized that they will never get in to that PC because they are always flying DL.

It really becomes a personal decision about what other perks/benefits you will take advantage of.

Also keep in mind that if you collect MR points you pay the excise tax when converting them to a US-based program. That adds to the cost of the program.
