Coast Starlight From LA -- How's its ontime rate

Hello Amtrak experts,

I need to go from LA (or SBA) to Paso Robles on the train. I see that the Coast Starlight stops in all of these places. In the past, I've heard nightmares about how the CS never runs on time.

I was just wondering if it typically at least leaves LA on time heading north or if the delays coming down usually make the LA departure late.

I have a time issue and don't want to be too delayed but small delays are okay. In other words an hour won't throw me off, but three would ruin everyting.

Another option I have is to take the PSL to SBP and bus it the 35 minutes to Paso Robles.

Which would you recommend?
