Is this a legitimate reason to be able to cancel a non-refundable reservation without paying a penalty?
My reasoning is that the hotel is no longer part of the Starwood Hotel Chain and in fact an is an indepedent hotel now. I made the reservation under the assumption that I would be staying at a Starwood Brand Hotel. I would now be dealing directly with an independent hotel and in addition would not be earning Starwood Points or Stay Credit.
Starwood Customer Service is saying that I need to deal directly with the hotel. I have contacted the hotel directly about cancelling and have received some push back.
The hotel has not even charged my credit card yet so I can't dispute the charge with my credit card company.
