"In the unlikely event of a water landing..."
Like many here, I was convinced by history (the 767 off the coast of Africa comes to mind) that "water landings" were essentially the same as any kind of crash: very low probability of survival.
For the crew to be able to belly land this A320 on the water so gently as to apparently keep the entire aircraft intact is nothing short of amazing.
Just imagine - the engines sit below the wing; even a small deviation might have caused one of those engines to "dig into" the water and create a twist/flip/breakup.
But the crew was magnificent. No fatalities. No reports of major injury.
