This is one of the major problems with TSA. If you get an idiot TSO who perceives just about any item as a weapon (leather bookmark, cheese slicer, skillet, Macbook Air, custom-made battey pack, etc.), you have no real recourse.
There should be real, effective, and immediate recourse for passengers who encounter this sort of TSO, and swift, harsh, transparent punishment for power-tripping TSOs who try to confiscate non-threats.
