The cheap upgrades at LGW didn't used to give extra tier points or miles for the upgrade, ie. you just got whatever your original ticket awarded.

Unless it's changed recently, you wouldn't get any for upgrading at LGW. Not sure if you can upgrade at LHR in a different way.
