fyi, the Personal Health Information Protection Act (Ontario) provides that you can't require the production of another person's health card or collect or use another person's health card number except as permitted by that Act.
But that doesn't preclude accepting it as valid ID, especially if you are not recording the number.
I still think the info should be encoded on the driver's licence so that we could have just one card. The gain in privacy from separate cards is negligible.
