Booking a R/T ticket but throwing away part to save fees?

Hi all,

I'm a bit of a beginner user of KVS, so please forgive if the question is a bit stupid, but here's what I'm coming up with.

I am flying YUL-GVA-KIX (omitting some routing), and I have a stopover in GVA for a few weeks. I'm going to travel around and get to IST through alternate means, and then I need to return to GVA and continue my trip to KIX. Using KVS (and, by extension, Orbitz), I am seeing a $57 USD fare for a R/T IST-GVA w/ min Sun stay. Would it be legal to book a R/T leaving on a Monday r/t (let's say) in a week or two, but connect on Tuesday morning to my GVA-KIX flight and just be on my merry way? That's coming out cheaper than booking a O/W flight with Turkish.

Help appreciated. Thanks!

-pN

[Edit] and while I'm at it (I know I'm pushing it), I suspect that there wouldn't be any way to drop the return part of the taxes, would there
