This might be largely down to the fact that there will be relatively few First passengers on a daily basis. These lounges will be BA/QF branded and be in addition to the existing OW lounges.....at this time.
Given the current financial situation all airlines face, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future there is a larger OW lounge, it would make sense to some degree. Would seem to make sense given the existing facilities at LAX.
Last I heard, BA was going to be doing the T3 J lounge, and QF the F lounge (to similar standard as MEL/SYD). This would be the best of both worlds, but the plan may since have changed.
The LAX experience has not been great - the lounge is far too small, apparently there was disagreements between the airlines over funding, not sure they want to go down that route again.
Whatever they build in T3, I hope its big enough to cope with all the AA pax that will doubtless be passing through...
