Unless that info is captured invisibly elsewhere in the PNR, if one later tried to reissue the new ticket yet again for the transportation actually desired (as opposed to an essentially random arbitray booking for 330 days out, presumably the optimal way to go in the short term), how would the old expiration data be evidenced? I can imagine that if one issued a Y ticket to preserve the voucher value and then tried for a full refund, there might be a full review of the transaction. But if it's just reissued later for transportation actually desired, it's hard for me to see how there could be a problem. Another way to look at it is, what's to lose if the voucher is expiring anyway?
Well the voucher might have some value on coupon connection (or as a gift to yours truly! ), so I'm not sure that there isn't anything to lose.

I have a feeling my buddy who tried this little trick wasn't too versed in the nuances of PNRs and refundable tickets and probably tried to apply the voucher to an e-fare or something like that. When he went to try and get the value back later there was a paper trail back to the original voucher expiration date.

Whether or not the CSR put the note in there manually or there is some kind of automatic field for this, I dunno.

I'd be interested in hearing how this turns out!
