Card issuers are wary on people who come to US on temporary visas, run up lots of charges and then just go home, thinking they would never come back here anytime soon. Not that OP has such idea in mind, but that is a scenario the issuers factor in.
Certainly not what I have in mind, but I agree that's a legitimate concern for lenders to have. Interestingly, I don't remember being asked about my nationality on any CC application. It's not in the credit reports, either. Interesting... I'll give it a try and let you know how it worked out.
