I wouldn't describe any of them as lame. They're all good. But neither would I say that they were the easiest places to reach from the major international airports. If you're looking for the easiest bed to reach after a late arrival at KIX or NRT, we could make other suggestions.
Thanks jib71...we're staying at the Westin Kyoto after a 7:55pm arrival at ITM--I've researched the routes to get there and I'm pretty comfortable with the hoops to jump through. We'll be pretty mobile luggage-wise, so I reckon we'll grab a quick snack somewhere at the Kyoto Station before either hopping a taxi or the subway (depending on energy levels). The Westin's free shuttle from the station of course stops running at like 6:30pm.

p.s. these are my first posts on the Japan board after much reading...y'all are an incredibly helpful and good bunch!
