You know, after reading the OP's missive, and some of the various responses, I really think that this OP's fledgling relationship with Delta might be broken beyond repair. The OP's suggestion that he might take his business elsewhere is in all actuality what he probably should do, given the seeming anger and distrust of Delta.
I don't write this to be at all crass; just honest. I have been GM with DL for a number of years now, and have always been subject to the change fee. I have still managed to enjoy and make great use of my status, and in process, feel appreciated for my business and the money that I spend with the airline.
Just to make a casual observation regarding the suggestion that Platinum's holding award res and then canceling at the last minute are to blame for the fee being applied across the board (and I certainly don't think that this is the case). So many of us have complained about Jeff not posting on FT anymore, or responding to our comments and complaints, but I'm willing to bet you that he (or people on his staff) look at these posts daily, and more specifically, at some of the posts in the trip reports forum that speak specifically to holding and canceling various award tix. Just food for thought......
