Las Vegas random thoughts

I just returned from a six night stay at three different properties in Las Vegas. Here is my report.

Friday and Saturday were spent at the Wynn. I had a Standard King room with a nice view of the strip. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was excellent. SkywalkerLAX just did an excellent review of the property. What I might add is that I did not care for the hike across the casino to get to the elevators. I was also puzzled by the fact that there was always a line at the casino cashier. This line almost always extended out into the walkway. I wonder why they have not tried to remedy this traffic flow problem.
I really did like the location of the hotel. One of my main priorities is that I like to step out the front door and be able to walk around and see things.
House keeping was efficient and turn down service was prompt. Valet parking did a great job. I had an early flight and called the hotel upon arrival to inquire about early check-in. They called me back at 11AM and informed me that my room was ready.
I had an overall good experience at the Wynn and would stay again.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were spent at the Red Rock Resort which is on the west side of Las Vegas about 30 minutes from the strip. This hotel might not meet the definition of a luxury property. It is a nice contemporary hotel that does a better job than most in Las Vegas at keeping the hotel isolated from the casino. Nice bed and one of the best hotel pillows I have ever experienced. I probably would not choose this hotel again due to remote location but other wise had a good stay. I was there for a conference, next year we will be at the Del Coronado in San Diego.

Wednesday night was spent at the Venetian. Lots of potential here but I was not very impressed. Check-in and Valet parking were both a nightmare. Perhaps I was just tired by this time and did not give place a fair chance. It seemed to me that the Wynn has their act together much better. The room was acceptable but seems to be showing some age.

I suppose I don’t really care for Casino hotels, which leaves the Trump and the FS but I am not thrilled with the location of either. Next time I think I might try the Bellagio or perhaps Encore after they Iron out the bugs. My opinion is that it is almost impossible for a Mega hotel to provide a luxury hotel experience equal to that of a typical RC, FS, Pen etc. Possibly The Wynn tower suites or one of the hotel within a hotel properties might be a better experience but a standard room typically meets my needs especially when traveling alone.
