I just booked a reward ticket YYC-ORD direct, both flights on UA. Fees came in at $97-ish, which is about half the fees for the direct AC option...so I know I saved some YQ charges.

The agent booking it broke out the charge and said United was charging a $20 fuel surcharge fee.

I know that's not a lot ($10 each way). This is the first time I've booked a strictly United reward ticket with no other carrier involved. I had been under the impression they didn't charge a fuel charge.

Would this charge be coming from United? Is this new? I know last week when I was looking at different dates the fees would come up on the aeroplan website for around $70 no problem. But today when I was looking at the same dates to book the reward ticket, the fee wouldn't come up - just the note about calling after booking to manually process the fees. Seems odd that this would be added now, when oil is so low.
