Hmmm, I've done a lot of research on this putting up my dad and brother in NY. I live in Brooklyn but I'm always researching hotels for friends and family who come out NY. My wholehearted suggestion for your requirments is the Hampton Inn in Soho. Brand new, decent sized rooms, close to trains and shopping. Tribeca is boring, average. HGI in Soho is new, small rooms, quiet street, not close to any action but completely train and cab accessible. Don't write off Times Square though. Best use of points IMO. HGI and Hilton times square is close to lots of trains, very decent sized rooms for NY, walkable to Saks, Hell's Kitchen, duh, Times Square, Rockafeller, Empire State building, etc. Don't think about Millenium Hilton or Embassy Suites Financial District. Boring. Definitely decent rooms, but boooring area.
