In fairness, a wife/husband will get the right to stay in the US (which is where the discrimination is based) but not necessarily work. A work permit for a spouse is a separate and additional process and not always guaranteed.
In certain countries like Malaysia, a wife gets the right to a work permit but a husband does not.
