Further, saying that these sorts of things allow you to travel for "free" is at best rather unrealistic, and possibly outright inaccurate.
Gotta agree with you there.
Picking one point (not so much in random as I was just laid off form a job that required a lot of travel).

If you need an income in order to pay off loans or support a child, find a job that calls for extensive travel. There are millions of jobs available in the global economy that demand travel.
Of course, some jobs are easier to love than others, and much work that involves travel also involves the destruction of local ecosystems and traditional ways of life. Avoid unethical work if at all possible – it is bad for your health and worse for your soul.
Finding a job that requires travel isn't that easy. Trust me, I found one, now lost it, and it wasn't easy. Looking again, and trust me again, it just isn't that easy

And I'm damn good at what I do.
Couldn't bring myself to read past the first few comments, but gotta say, it takes a certain kind of a person to let go and travel like that.
And of course, depending on how long one plans on doing this, sooner or later a little thing pops up, like how will you live in retirement
I took the road less traveled for a long time, and now find myself somewhat a little behind, ( though not as much as many others ). On the bright side I have no debt, and with all the upheavel in my life right now taking a year off doesn't sound so bad right about now @:-)
