Intra-California, I have seen maybe one in about 1000 flights [oversold] over the last 10 years.
With 3,400 daily departures, that would extrapolate to 3.4 flights/day oversold. I wonder what the actual stats show?
The computer does very well at figuring out how many seats Southwest can sell.
Yes it does...a little bit too well for those of us who like to collect VDB vouchers. It was the combination of other carriers doing a better job of avoiding oversells (from what we could tell); change fees getting ridiculously high; and WN adding so many attractive non-stops from our originating airport, that convinced us to abandon the other guys.
