I had always THOUGHT it was valid lower 48 only, but phoned a 1K agent before I changed post 1, who told me it had the
same rules and destinations as XY ... but with UA agents who
really knows the real story?
Seattle to Cancun etc seems a pretty good deal if it is.
I am on a Hawaiian Airlines 1 hour award flight today for 10,000 United Miles RT, so "value" in awards is hard to find these days.
