It's easy to tell when the card is cancelled, just no as easy as having it in red: The available credit goes to $0 or close to it (ignore the credit limit, although in my case it was consolidated and went to $0 also, it might not in all cases). This approach works at all card companies in my experience (for example, AMEX also has problems giving "cancelled" wording on the main page consistently, but seeing you have $0 creidt available works there too).
For some reason my available credit still shows the max. I am fairly sure it has been canceled since I did not receive any bill for the annual fee. So perhaps there are some exceptions to this?
