Folks, I just reserved GH, but now am wondering whether we should go to County Hall if we want a good state-of-the-art workout facility? How are do the rooms / upgrade possibilities (as a plat on an award stay) vary between the two properties? Or should we look elsewhere if this is important to us?
I think I remember reading at least one of the central London properties has a very nice swimming pool - which properties offer one that one can actually swim in (that is, is large enough to really swim)? (I assume most Marriotts in London, like most other hotels there, don't have a swimming pool at all).
If you want the pool, then you want the County Hall as i believe it is an Olympic size pool. I cannot speak to their Gym, however. In addition, you might get a room with a view of Big Ben. If you are really, really lucky however, you might get one of the Balcony rooms overlooking Big Ben -- I have received such on an award stay in the past, by the way based on my past lapsed Platinum status. Thiere is nothing better in London than sitting on your balcony -- weather permitting -- and having take-away late at night with the view of Big Ben and its clock face illuminated, and the river traffic lazily drifting by below you.
Breakfast on the balcony ain't that shabby either!
Although I was not impressed with the lounge at the CH and cannot opine on the one at the GH, I think that the above might sway you to change your award stay to the CH, especially if you are a first time visitor to London.
Good luck!
