FT'ers, please lend me your collective wisdom! I have a stop-over in JNB coming up. Shamingly, although I've never been to SA before, I'd rather not make any real effort to leave the airport....

What is the "easiest" hotel in BA FF's experience for such a stop-over? By "easy", I mean requires minimal travel from the airport, minimal engagement with the real SA and delivers a reliable international-bland environment for 12 hours. Bonus marks for 3*/4* suggestions at a 2009 credit crunch price rather than the ultra-5* luxury that was de rigeur for FT in 2008

In case it seems lazy to ask this way, I have done my homework (honest, Miss!) on TripAdvisor. Choosing a hotel that I actually wanted to stay in for pleasure would be fine but I am left none the wiser for this in-and-out stop-over: I have not feel for Jo'Burg as a city, which locations are pleasant, how long it is to travel between parts etc. and there are several SA domestic hotel brands that I just cannot judge from a distance.

Any suggestions welcome!
