Your train can either be on time or up to 12 hours late. One never knows in India, with these long distance trains (the exceptions being the Rajdhani trains which are mostly on time.) I wish I had more comforting advice... sorry.
Shouldnt be that much of an issue and you can check train status realtime at
www.indianrail.gov.in /
www.irctc.co.in so if your bombay train is actually running late you should know several hours before.
Rental car as a backup is always an option.
