Thanks for the advice. I am going to try again to switch the tickets around (I feel no need whatsoever, in any sense, to go back through Beijing, but when I first booked there was no availability directly from HKG, where I finish up my business).

From everything I have seen and read, it does appear that the 100-minute connection T3-T2 is likely to be impossible, so I will have to do something...
